Delco® AM/FM Stereo Radio with Clock

Radio Display Illumination

When you turn on the headlamps or parking lamps, the I/P lamp dimmer controls the illumination of the display. The dimmer is located on the instrument panel to the left of the steering wheel. When the headlamps or parking lamps are off, the display lights at 100 percent intensity. The display is not adjustable.

ON/VOL

The ignition switch must be in the ACC or ON positions in order to operate the radio. When the ignition is in the OFF position, the time can be displayed for approximately five seconds by pressing the RECALL button. When the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON positions and the radio is turned off, the time will display. In this instance, all controls except those required to set the clock will deactivate.

When you turn the knob clockwise, past the detent, you will turn on the radio. When you turn the knob further, you will increase the volume. In order to decrease the volume, turn the knob counterclockwise. When you continue to turn the knob past the detent, you will turn the radio off.

RECALL

When you press the RECALL button (with the radio on), you will toggle the display between the clock and radio frequency. After approximately five seconds, the display will revert back to the clock. This dual function button is also used to set the clock.

AM/FM

Press this button to toggle between the AM and FM bands. AM or FM will appear on the display, depending upon the band that you chose. The radio will automatically go to the frequency that played when that band was last active.

SEEK

Press the right end of the SEEK button to automatically tune to the next higher station within range. Press the left end of the SEEK button to automatically tune to the next lower station within range. In either case, when seek reaches the end of the band, the seek function will continue in the same direction at the opposite end of the band.

TUNE

Press and hold the right end of the TUNE button to manually tune to the next higher frequency. Press and hold the left end of the TUNE button to manually tune to the next lower frequency. If you hold down the TUNE button in either direction for more than one second, the function goes to fast tune. On the AM band, the frequency advances in increments of 10 kHz in either direction. On the FM band, the frequency advances in increments of 0.2 MHz in either direction. In either case, when tune reaches the end of the band, the tune function will continue in the same direction at the opposite end of the band. Release the button when you reach the desired frequency.

This dual function button is also used to set the clock.

Radio Frequency Preset Buttons

The radio has six preset buttons. The buttons are numbered 1 through 6. The buttons permit you to preset 12 stations (6 AM and 6 FM). In order to set a station preset button:

  1. Select the desired band (AM or FM).
  2. Tune the radio to the desired station.
  3. Press and hold the desired preset button. Hold down the button for approximately three seconds. The sound will interrupt during this step.
  4. When the sound resumes, release the button.
  5. The button is now set to the desired station. The radio will now automatically tune to that pre-determined station when the button is pressed.

If power to the radio unit is interrupted, the preset buttons will lose their memory. If the buttons lose their memory, you must reset the preset buttons.

Setting the Tone

In order to adjust the bass, depress and release the BASS/FADE control knob to the out position. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the bass. Turn the knob counterclockwise to decrease the bass. In order to adjust the treble, depress and release the TREB/BAL control knob to the out position. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the treble. Turn the knob counterclockwise to decrease the treble. After either adjustment, depress and release the knob in order to return it to the in position.

Adjusting the Speaker Balance

In order to adjust the balance, depress and release the TREB/BAL control knob to the out position. Pull the knob and turn the knob clockwise to move the sound to the right speakers. Pull the knob and turn the knob counterclockwise in order to move the sound to the left speakers. In order to adjust the fade, depress and release the BASS/FADE control knob to the out position. Pull the knob and turn the knob clockwise in order to move the sound to the rear speakers. Pull the knob and turn the knob counterclockwise to move the sound to the front speakers. After either adjustment, fully depress and release the knob in order to return it to the in position.

Clock Operation

The clock function of this radio does not have a memory function. If power to the radio is interrupted, you will have to reset the clock.

Setting the Clock

In order to set the clock, the ignition switch must be in the ACC or the ON position. The radio may be turned on or off.

In order to set the hour:

  1. Press and hold the RECALL button (TIME SET).
  2. At the same time, press and hold the left end of the TUNE (HR) button.
  3. Release the button when the correct hour appears.

In order to set the minutes:

  1. Press and hold the RECALL button (TIME SET).
  2. At the same time, press and hold the right end of the TUNE (MIN) button.
  3. Release the button when the correct minute appears.

Cassette Player Operation

In order to operate the cassette player:

    • The ignition switch must be in the ACC or ON position.
    • The radio power must be on.

The cassette player is designed to work best with tapes which are 60 to 90 minutes long. Longer tapes are thinner. Longer tapes may not function properly in this unit. Do not use these tapes in order to diagnose problems in the cassette player.

The side of the cassette with the tape visible should face to the right when you insert the cassette into the unit. The tape may not be seated squarely in the player if the following conditions occur:

    • You hear no sound.
    • You hear garbled sound.

In order to correct this problem, press the EJECT button in order to remove the tape. Reinsert the tape. When you insert a metal or chrome tape, MTL will appear on the display. Once the tape begins to play, you may use the following controls in the same manner as with the radio:

    • Volume
    • Treble
    • Bass
    • Balance
    • Fade

The cassette radio has a feature in order to determine if a cassette tape is broken. When the take-up reel spins faster than a set threshold, the player assumes that the tape is broken. The tape will eject. You may disable this feature by pressing and holding the TAPE button for approximately five seconds while the ignition is on and the radio is off. The TAPE icon will blink once or twice in order to indicate that this feature has been disabled. The Cut Tape Detection feature will remain disabled until you press the EJECT button.

Tape Direction Indicators

The side of the tape which is playing (top or bottom) is indicated by arrows at the far left of the display.

Fast Forward

Activate fast forward by pressing the arrows on the right end of the TUNE (FF) button. This will fast forward the tape in the direction of play. Press the right end of the TUNE (FF) button or the TUNE button in order to return to normal playing speed.

Important

Pressing the TAPE button will change the tape side in addition to stopping fast forward operation.

Rewind

Activate rewind by pressing the arrows on the left end of the TUNE (REW) button. This will rewind the tape opposite to the direction of play. Press the left end of the TUNE (REW) button or the TAPE button in order to return to normal playing speed.

Important

Pressing the TAPE button will change the tape side in addition to stopping rewind operation.

Next Selection

Activate next selection by pressing the arrows on the right end of the SEEK (NEXT) button. This will cause the tape to move to the beginning of the next selection. In order for the next selection function to operate properly, the tape must have three to four seconds of silence between selections. Press the right end of the SEEK (NEXT) button or the TAPE button in order to return to normal playing speed.

Previous Selection

Activate previous selection by pressing the arrows on the left end of the SEEK (PREV) button. This will cause the tape to move to the beginning of the current selection. In order for the previous selection function to operate properly, the current selection must have been playing for more than eight seconds. If the current selection has been playing for less than eight seconds, then the tape will rewind to the beginning of the previous selection. Press the left end of the SEEK (PREV) button or the TAPE button in order to return to normal playing speed.

Notice

Pressing the TAPE button will change the tape side in addition to stopping previous selection operation.

Changing Programs

Press the TAPE button in order to switch from one side of the tape to the other. Note the arrow in the graphic display.

Dolby® Noise Reduction

Press the 2 button to remove noise from Dolby® NR-encoded tapes. (Dolby® Noise Reduction is manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. Dolby and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation.)

Eject

Press the EJECT button in order to remove or stop the tape. The unit will return to radio operation.

Tape

When you push the TAPE button when a tape is loaded and the radio is in receiver mode, the following actions will occur:

  1. The receiver mode will cancel.
  2. The tape will begin to play normally.

When you push the TAPE button when no tape is loaded, the tape play is not affected. When you push the TAPE button when the tape is in REV, FWD, PREV, or NEXT modes, the following actions will occur:

  1. The special mode will cancel.
  2. The tape will change to the other side.

Radio Frequency Preset Buttons

The radio has six preset buttons. The buttons are numbered 1 through 6. The buttons permit you to preset 18 stations (6 AM and 12 FM--6 on FM1 and 6 on FM2). In order to set a station preset button:

  1. Select the desired band (AM or FM).
  2. Tune the radio to the desired station.
  3. Press and hold the desired preset button. Hold down the button for approximately three seconds. The sound will interrupt during this step.
  4. When the sound resumes, release the button.
  5. The button is now set to the desired station. The radio will now automatically tune to that pre-determined station when the button is pressed.

If power to the radio unit is interrupted, the preset buttons will lose their memory. If the buttons lose their memory, you must reset the preset buttons. Preset button 2 assumes the Dolby® function when you use the cassette player. Refer to Cassette Operation for details about Dolby®.

Tone Select

Press the TONE button in order to activate the preset tone feature. The TONE button will allow you to choose preset treble and bass equalization settings for the following music types:

    • Rock
    • News
    • Pop
    • Jazz
    • Classical

Each time you press the tone button, a different setting will appear on the display. When you press the TONE button again after CLASSICAL, tone control reverts to manual control. Manual control allows you to use TREB and BASS to set the tone.

AM/FM

Press this button to toggle between the AM and FM bands. AM, FM1 or FM2 will appear on the display, depending upon the band that you chose. The radio will automatically go to the frequency that played when that band was last active. If a cassette is playing, depressing the AM/FM band button will perform the following functions:

  1. Stop the tape.
  2. Retract the pinch rollers.
  3. Switch to radio receiver mode.

Delco® Stereo with Compact Disc Player

This CD player is designed to play only 120 mm (4.75 in) discs. All CDs used in this system must display the block-lettered symbol COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO. If you insert any other disc, you may damage the CD player or disc. Do not use 76 mm (3 in) size discs, commonly referred to as CD singles. Do not use a 76 mm disc when diagnosing problems in the CD player.

Recall

Press the RECALL button to display the track number currently playing. Press the button again within five seconds in order to display the elapsed time for the track. The track number also appears when you insert the disc.

Previous Track

When you press the arrows on the left of the SEEK button (TRACK), the following actions will occur:

  1. The audio will mute.
  2. The CD will move to the previous selection.
  3. If you hold the button or press the button more than once, the disc will proceed through further tracks. The CD will cycle backward if you hold the button. The CD will move one track for each time the button is pressed and released. The track number will appear on the display.

Next Track

When you press the arrows on the right of the SEEK button (TRACK), the following actions will occur:

  1. The audio will mute.
  2. The CD will move to the next selection.

If you hold the button or press the button more than once, the disc will proceed through further tracks. The CD will cycle forward if you hold the button. The CD will move one track for each time the button is pressed and released. The track number will appear on the display.

Reverse

When you press the arrows on the left of the TUNE button (REV), the disc will rapidly return to a favorite passage. The current selection will remain audible at a lower volume level during the reverse mode. When you release the button, the CD will play the passage at that point at normal volume. If you reach the beginning of the current selection, the previous selection will start.

Forward

When you press the arrows on the right of the TUNE button (FWD), the disc will advance quickly within a track. The current selection will remain audible at a lower volume level during the forward mode. When you release the button, the CD will play the passage at that point at normal volume. If you reach the end of the current selection, the next selection will start.

Repeat

When you press the 5 (RPT) button once, the CD will repeat a selection after it completes playing. This feature will cancel if you press any of the following buttons:

    • 5 (RPT)
    • 2 (RAND)
    • AM/FM
    • TRACK

The word REPEAT will appear on the display while this feature is active.

Random Play

When you press the 2 (RAND) button once, the CD will play tracks in random order. This feature will cancel if you press any of the following buttons:

    • 5 (RPT)
    • 2 (RAND)

The word RANDOM will appear on the display while this feature is active.

Cancel CD and Play Radio

If you press the AM/FM button while in the CD mode, you will cancel the CD operation. The unit will return to radio operation. In order to return to the CD mode, press the CD button.

Eject

Pressing the EJECT button when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON positions will perform the following functions:

  1. Eject the CD.
  2. Switch the audio to radio if the radio is turned on.

The CD will start playing track 1 when you reinsert the disc. If the ignition switch is turned off, the eject function will still operate. The radio will remain off.

AM/FM

Press this button to toggle between the AM and FM bands. AM, FM1 or FM2 will appear on the display, depending upon the band that you chose. The radio will automatically go to the frequency that played when that band was last active. If a CD is playing, depressing the AM/FM band button will perform the following functions:

  1. Stop the CD play.
  2. Switch to radio receiver mode.
