Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sending unit connector.
  2. Connect a J 36169-A fused jumper from connector cavity to chassis ground.

Does the ECT gauge indicate H?

Go to Step 3

Replace the ECT sending unit.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

  1. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster assembly connector C1.
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter from connector C1 cavity 5 to chassis ground.
  3. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

3.0 ohms

Repair the open in the YEL/WHT wire between the instrument panel cluster assembly and the ECT sending unit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect the instrument panel cluster printed circuit for cracks and bad connections.

Do any cracks or bad connections exist?

Repair the cracks or bad connections in the instrument panel cluster printed circuit.

Replace the ECT gauge.
