  1. Disconnect the cruise control on/off switch connector.
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) from cavity 1 of the cruise control on/off switch connector to ground.
  3. Measure the voltage with the ignition switch in the ON position.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

10 volts

Repair the open the BLK/WHT wire between fuse block 2 and the cruise control on/off switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reconnect the cruise control on/off switch.
  3. Disconnect the cruise control actuator connector.
  4. Connect a J 39200 DMM from cavity 8 to ground.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  6. Depress and hold the cruise control on/off switch.
  7. Measure the voltage.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

10 volts

  1. Connect a J 39200 DMM from cavity 12 to ground.
  2. Measure the voltage with the ignition switch in the ON position.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

10 volts

Repair the open in the BLU/BLK wire between S264 and the cruise control actuator. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Connect a J 39200 DMM from cavity 5 to ground.
  2. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

0.5 ohms

  1. Stop the vehicle.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Disconnect the cruise control actuator connector.
  4. Connect a fused jumper wire from cavity 4 to ground.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  6. Observe the cruise indicator in the instrument panel cluster assembly.

Does the cruise control indicator light?

Replace the cruise control actuator. Refer to Cruise Control Actuator Assembly Replacement .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the C1 connector of the instrument panel cluster assembly.
  3. Connect a J 39200 DMM from the C1 connector cavity 4 of the instrument panel cluster assembly to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  5. Measure the voltage.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

10 volts

Repair or replace the instrument panel cluster assembly printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Repair the open in the GRY wire between the instrument panel cluster assembly and the cruise control activator. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Stop the vehicle.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Disconnect the cruise control actuator connector.
  4. Connect a J 39200 DMM from cavity 6 to ground.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  6. Measure the voltage.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

10 volts

  1. Use a J 39200 DMM in order to backprobe the stoplamp switch from cavity 4 to ground.
  2. Measure the voltage.

Is the voltage greater than the specified value?

Repair the open in the YEL/GRN wire between the stoplamp switch and the cruise control activator. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM from the cruise control actuator connector cavity 9 to ground.
  3. Apply the parking brake.
  4. For an automatic transmission, place the manual selector lever in the D position. For a manual transmission, release the clutch pedal.
  5. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

0.5 ohms

    • For an automatic transmission, repair the short to ground in the BLK/RED wire between the cruise control actuator and the PNP/transmission range switch.
    • For a manual transmission, repair the short to ground in the BLU wire between the cruise control actuator and the CPP interrupt switch.

  1. Stop the vehicle.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Disconnect the cruise control actuator connector.
  4. Connect a J 39200 DMM from cavity 8 to ground.
  5. Rotate the mode switch to the RESUME/ACCEL position.
  6. Hold the switch in this position.
  7. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

900 ohms - 970 ohms

  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Depress the brake pedal.
  4. Measure the voltage.
