The stripes and the decals adhere to a painted surface using pressure sensitive adhesive.

Use a wetting solution in order to aid in lifting and positioning the stripe or the decal during installation. A wetting solution also ensures a better bond between the stripe or the decal, and the panels.

Complete metal repair and/or refinishing operations before installing the stripes or the decals if the replacement involves the following conditions:

    • Collision damage
    • Damage to the underlying painted surface

Notice: Striping material highlights vehicle surface imperfection. All dings, rough metal, paint defects and uneven two-tone paint breaklines must be eliminated before stripe/decal application. Freshly painted surfaces must be allowed to dry thoroughly before installing stripe or decal. Residual solvents in fresh painted surfaces can lead to subsequent blistering problems if stripe or decal is applied before complete release of solvents.

The striping material highlights the vehicle surface imperfections. Eliminate the following conditions before you apply the stripe/decal application:

    • Dings
    • Rough metal
    • Paint defects
    • Uneven two-tone paint break lines

Important: Do NOT apply the decals when the temperatures are below 21°C (70°F).

Maintain the body surfaces and the decals between 21-38°C (70-100°F) prior to installation. Warm the body surfaces and the decals using an auxiliary heat source if the temperature is below 21°C (70°F).

Important: Use a wetting solution when applying a large stripe and decal packages.

You may apply the stripes and the decals to the vehicle with or without the use of a wetting solution.

You must use a wetting solution when applying the stripes or the decals on flexible surfaces (fascias, etc.). The use of a wetting solution reduces the formation of bubbles under the decal due to the outgassing potential of the flexible materials.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the following components:
  2. • The necessary moldings or trim
    • The molding attaching clips
    • The handles
    • The side marker lamps
    • The stripe or decal overlapping components
  3. Clean the following areas as needed:
  4. • The repair surfaces
    • The adjacent panels
    • The openings

Notice: To avoid damaging the paint finish, do not use pointed or sharp instruments to remove the stripe or the decal.

  5. Remove the stripe or the decal by starting at one edge and peeling the stripe or the decal from the panel surface.
  6. Apply heat to the stripe or the decal at the point of removal in order to aid in the removal operation.

  7. Remove all traces of adhesive residue from the painted surfaces using a silicone, wax or grease remover solvent such as one of the following items:
  8. • Prep-Sol
    • Acryli-Clean
    • Pre-Kleano, or the equivalent
  9. If you are not applying a new stripe or a decal, replace the following components if previously removed:
  10. • The moldings
    • The trim
    • The clips
    • The handles
    • The side marker lamps
    • Any other parts

Installation Procedure

Use the following equipment and materials in order to complete a quality stripe or decal application:

    • A wetting solution
Use a foaming type ammonia-free window cleaner or prepare a solution by mixing 7.4 ml (0.25 fl oz of liquid detergent per 0.95 l (1 qt) of water.
    • A silicone, wax or grease remover such as one of the following items:
      • Prep-Sol
      • Acryli-Clean
      • Pre-Kleano, or the equivalent
    • Isopropyl alcohol
    • A squeegee
Use a squeegee that is 75-100 mm (3-4 in) wide, with a plastic or hard rubber construction. Deburr any sharp or rough edges in order to prevent scratching of the stripe or the decal.
    • A water bucket and sponge or a spray bottle
    • Sandpaper
Use wet or dry sandpaper with a 600 grit or finer.
    • A heat gun or an infrared heat lamp
    • A clean, lint-free wiping rag
    • A sharp knife or a razor blade
    • A pair of scissors
    • A fine pin or needle
    • A marking pencil

Notice: To prevent possible vehicle, stripe or decal damage, always refer to manufacturer's packaged instructions.

  1. Clean the painted surface using a silicone, wax or grease removing solvent such as the following items:
  2. • Prep-Sol
    • Acryli-Clean
    • Pre-Kleano, or the equivalent
  3. Wipe the surface with a clean cloth.
  4. Allow the surface to dry.
  5. Important: If the area where the stripe or the decal is to be applied has been refinished, remove any imperfection that may show through the stripe or the decal.

  6. Clean the area where the stripe or the decal is to be applied using a 50/50 mixture (by volume) of isopropyl alcohol and water.
  7. Wipe the panel surface using a clean cloth while the solvent is still wet.
  8. Allow the surface to dry.
  9. Apply a wetting solution to the area where the stripe or the decal is to be installed.
  10. Remove the backing material of the stripe or the decal as needed.
  11. Apply wetting solution on the adhesive side of the stripe or the decal.
  12. Apply the stripe or the decal to the panel. The wetting solution allows for movement of the stripe or the decal for proper positioning.
  13. Working from the center where possible, squeegee the stripe or the decal into position.
  14. Application of additional wetting solution may be necessary in order to ease the installation of the stripe or the decal. Application of the wetting solution on the top side of the stripe or the decal eases the pull of the squeegee on the stripe or the decal and helps to eliminate damage to the stripe or the decal.

  15. Apply heat to the stripe or the decal at the recessed areas.
  16. Press the stripe or the decal into the recess in order to obtain a firm bond.
  17. Inspect the stripe or the decal from a critical angle using adequate light reflection in order to detect any irregularities that may have developed during installation.
  18. Important: Do NOT use a razor blade or a sharp knife in order to pierce the bubbles.

  19. Remove all air bubbles by piercing the bubbles on the outer edge using one of the following items:
  20. • A safety pin
    • A needle
    • A tool with the same size piercing tip
  21. Force the air out from the opposite edge with the blade of the squeegee.
  22. Install the previously removed parts.
  23. Clean as needed.
