Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 761444 Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       â€¢ Air bag deployment
       â€¢ Personal injury
       â€¢ Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       â€¢ Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       â€¢ If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
  3. Remove the wire harness strap.

  4. Remove the electric park lock. Refer to Electronic Park Lock Switch Replacement .
  5. If equipped, remove the theft deterrent control module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement in Theft Deterrent-Immobilizer.
  6. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees.
  7. Gently pull the key alarm connector (1) out of the ignition lock cylinder case assembly (2).
  8. Disconnect the connector from the ignition switch assembly.
  9. Remove the wires encased in the ignition switch clip, which is located on the side of the ignition switch.

    Important: If the steering wheel has steering wheel controls, the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and the wire harness assembly must come off as one piece. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .

  10. Disconnect all connectors attached to the wire harness assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 603937 Size: SH
  1. If the steering wheel has steering wheel controls, install the steering wheel module coil with the wire harness assembly as one piece. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .
  2. Connect all of the connectors from the new wire harness assembly.

    3. Object Number: 306267 Size: SH
  3. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the ignition lock cylinder case assembly (2).
  4. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector (1) locks into place.
  5. Install the electric park lock. Refer to Electronic Park Lock Switch Replacement .
  6. If equipped, install the theft deterrent control module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement in Theft Deterrent-Immobilizer.

    7. Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of the coil, which may cause personal injury.

  7. Install the wires back into the ignition switch clip, which is located on the side of the ignition switch.

  8. Install the wire harness strap.
  9. Install the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  10. Enable the inflatable steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
