DEFINITION: Starter Solenoid Does Not Click

Important: 

   • Battery must be in a charged state to avoid misdiagnosis.
   • To avoid misdiagnosis, be sure to zero the DMM befor taking measurements.

  1. Set the gear selector switch to PARK.
  2. Turn the Ignition Switch to START.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage from the starter solenoid terminal S to ground.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

0 - 9.5 V

Go to Step 2

  1. Disconnect the transaxle range switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage from the transaxle range switch connector C1 terminal G to ground.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

0 - 9.5 V

Go to Step 3

  1. Using a DMM, backprobe C201 terminal D5 to ground.
  2. Measure voltage.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

0 - 9.5 V

Go to Step 4

Check for a poor connection or open in circuit 42.

Repair poor connection or open in circuit 42.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

Replace the underhood electrical center.

Has the repair been made and the system rechecked?

Connect a remote starter switch between the starter solenoid terminal S and the positive terminal of the battery.

Does the starter crank?

Repair high resistance or poor connection in circuit 1.

Replace the starter solenoid.

Check for an open or high resistance in circuit 6.
