Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting
and Jacking in General Information.
- Support the muffler.
- Support the intermediate pipe.
- Support the three way catalytic converter.
- Remove the bolts, hangers, and the insulators,
as used.
Notice: Cuts must be made as close to the welds as possible in order to ensure
adequate overlap for clamping.
- Cut the intermediate exhaust pipe from the muffler.
- Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe and the bolts/screws from
the three way catalytic converter.
- Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe.
Installation Procedures
- Install the new intermediate exhaust pipe.
- Install the clamp to the original muffler. Do not tighten the
clamp nut.
- Install the intermediate exhaust pipe and the bolts/screws to
the three way catalytic converter.
- Install the insulators, hangers, and
the bolts, as used.
Tighten
- Tighten the clamp nut to the 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the intermediate exhaust pipe bolts/screws to 47 N·m
(35 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Lower the vehicle.
