SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT A HIGH AMOUNT OF EFFORT IS REQUIRED TO SOUND THE HORN.
INSTALL NEW INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE ATTACHING PINS IN THE STEERING WHEEL, USING THE FOLLOWING SERVICE PROCEDURE.
1. RECORD RADIO PRESETS. 2. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 3. DISABLE SIR SYSTEM. SEE SECTION 9J OF THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL. 4. TURN IGNITION SWITCH TO THE "ON" POSITION. 5. FOR ACCESS TO THE TWO INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE ATTACHING SCREWS ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, TURN THE STEERING WHEEL 90 DEGREES (1/4 TURN) FROM THE CENTER (STRAIGHT AHEAD) POSITION. IN THIS POSITION, ONE SCREW IS ACCESSIBLE FROM THE TOP SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE OTHER SCREW IS ACCESSIBLE FROM THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE COLUMN. USE THE TILT FEATURE ON THE STEERING COLUMN AS NECESSARY TO IMPROVE ACCESS. 6. TURN IGNITION SWITCH TO THE "OFF" POSITION. 7. USING A "T-30" TORX(R) HEAD TOOL, OR EQUIVALENT, COMPLETELY LOOSEN THE TWO SCREWS THAT ATTACH THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN LOOSE, THE TWO SCREWS WILL REMAIN IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE THEM. 8. REMOVE THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. 9. REMOVE THE TWO SPRING CLIPS THAT RETAIN THE PINS IN THE BACKSIDE OF THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE. SEE FIGURE 1. 10. REMOVE THE TWO PINS FROM THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE AND DISCARD THE PINS.
WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW PINS IN THE NEXT STEP, PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY ARE TO BE INSTALLED IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND NOT THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE. ALSO NOTE THAT THEY ARE INDEXED AND CAN ONLY BE INSTALLED IN ONE POSITION.
11. POSITION THE TWO NEW PINS IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND SECURE FROM THE BACKSIDE OF THE WHEEL WITH THE TWO PREVIOUSLY LOOSENED SCREWS. SEE FIGURE 1. TIGHTEN SCREWS TO 4 N.M (30 LB IN). 12. REINSTALL THE TWO SPRING CLIPS ON THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE. 13. RECONNECT THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. 14. POSITION THE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT MODULE TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAREFULLY PUSH ON EACH SIDE UNTIL BOTH PINS ENGAGE (CLICK) IN THE SPRING CLIPS. 15. RECONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 16. ENABLE THE SIR SYSTEM. SEE SECTION 9J OF THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL. 17. RESET CLOCK AND PROGRAM RADIO PRESETS.
