Important: Use the following appropriate safety equipment and procedures:

   â€¢ Wear safety glasses.
   â€¢ Wear safety shoes.
   â€¢ Wear solvent-proof gloves.
   â€¢ Keep the work area clean.
   â€¢ Keep the tools clean.
   â€¢ Clean the transaxle exterior before removing parts.
   â€¢ Do not use wipe cloths.
   â€¢ Do not use rags.
   â€¢ Do not use solvents on rubber seals.
   â€¢ Do not use solvents on plastic/PTFE thrust washers.
   â€¢ Use compressed air to blow out all passages.
   â€¢ Use fine wire to clean out small passages.
   â€¢ Handle the parts carefully to prevent damage.
   â€¢ Use transaxle fluid to lubricate all internal parts during the assembly procedures.
   â€¢ Always dip the threads of bolts/screws, or studs in transaxle fluid when installing into aluminum.
   â€¢ Always use a torque wrench for proper torque.
   â€¢ Use thread inserts to recondition damaged or stripped aluminum threads.
   â€¢ Replace all gaskets. Do not use gasket cement or sealers.
   â€¢ Replace all O-ring seals. Do not use gasket cement or sealers.
   â€¢ Replace the plastic/PTFE seals only when necessary. Use the appropriate seal protector to install.
   â€¢ Replace the rubber seals only when necessary. Use the appropriate seal protector to install.

Inspection Procedure

Inspect the manual linkage for the following conditions:

    â€¢ Inspect for wear at the pivoting points.
    â€¢ Inspect for bent links.
    â€¢ Inspect for broken links.
    â€¢ Inspect for bent rods.
    â€¢ Inspect for broken rods.

Inspect all the seals, the gaskets, the O-rings and the mating surfaces for the following conditions:

    â€¢ Inspect for nicks.
    â€¢ Inspect for cuts.
    â€¢ Inspect for damage.

Inspect the snap rings for the following conditions:

    â€¢ Inspect for expansion.
    â€¢ Inspect for compression.
    â€¢ Inspect for proper ring groove fit.

Inspect the bearings and the thrust surfaces for the following conditions:

    â€¢ Inspect for wear.
    â€¢ Inspect for scoring.
    â€¢ Inspect for pitting.
