Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

  3. Object Number: 2027745  Size: SH
  4. Remove the both brake hose bolts (2) attaching the hose to the rear brake caliper bracket.

  5. Object Number: 2027748  Size: SH
  6. Remove rear parking brake cable bracket bolts (1) from the rear axle.

  7. Object Number: 2027750  Size: SH
  8. Remove the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts (1).

  9. Object Number: 2027752  Size: SH

    Caution: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  10. Without disconnecting the hydraulic brake flexible hose, remove wheel bearing/hub and brake assembly (2) upward and secure the wheel bearing/hub and brake assembly with heavy mechanics wire (1), or equivalent.
  11. Support the rear axle with a hydraulic lift table.
  12. Remove the lower shock bolts. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement.
  13. Lower the hydraulic lift table and remove the rear coil springs. Refer to Rear Spring Replacement.

  15. Remove both rear axle bushing bolts (1) nuts.

  17. Use the hydraulic lift table to lower the rear axle from the vehicle.

  19. Remove the rear coil spring lower seat insulators (1) from the axle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear coil spring lower seat insulators (1) to the axle.

  2. Object Number: 2027755  Size: SH
  3. Raise the axle (1) into position.

  4. Object Number: 2027754  Size: SH
  5. Loosely install the both axle bushing bolts (1) and nuts.
  6. Note: The axle bushing bolts (1) and nut connection must be tightened with the axle at the correct trim height.

  7. Using the lift table, raise the axle to the proper trim height specification by measuring the vertical distance between the bottom edge of the upper spring seat and the bottom of the notch in the lower spring seat. Refer to Trim Height Inspection for height measurement.
  8. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  9. Tighten the axle bushing through bolts (1) and nuts and tighten to  xx N·m (XX lb in)..
  10. Install the rear coil springs. Refer to Rear Spring Replacement.
  11. Install the lower shock bolts. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement.
  12. Remove the hydraulic lift table from the rear axle.
  13. Install the wheel bearing/hub and brake assembly.

  14. Object Number: 2027750  Size: SH
  15. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts (1) and tighten to  xx N·m (XX lb in).

  16. Object Number: 2027748  Size: SH
  17. Install rear parking brake cable bracket bolts (1) at the rear axle and tighten to  xx N·m (XX lb in).

  18. Object Number: 2027745  Size: SH
  19. Install the both brake hose bolts (2) attaching the hose to the rear brake caliper bracket.
  20. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  21. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
