Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
  4. Remove brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
  5. Clean any debris and contaminants from around the wheel cylinder.

  6. Object Number: 2027657  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting (1) from the wheel cylinder. Cap the exposed brake pipe end to prevent fluid loss and
  8. Remove the 2 wheel cylinder mounting bolts (2).

  9. Object Number: 2027659  Size: SH
  10. Remove the wheel cylinder (1) from the backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2027659  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel cylinder (1) to backing plate.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 2027657  Size: SH
  3. Install wheel cylinder mounting bolts (2) and tighten to xx N·m (xx lb ft).
  4. Connect the brake pipe fitting (1) at the wheel cylinder.
  5. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
  6. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
  7. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
