VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989-90 1.0L "M" (VIN 6)

This bulletin serves to revise the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Adjustment Procedure (A/T only) in Section 6E2-C2 "driveability And Emissions" in the 1989 and 1990 1.0L (VIN 6) "M" Carline Service Manual.

The attached page reflects the revised Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment and revised Figure C2-32.

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR(TPS)(A/T Only)

Remove or Disconnect (Figure C2-30)

1. Air cleaner assembly. 2. TPS connector. 3. 2 retaining screws for TPS. 4. TPS from throttle body.

Install or Connect (Figure C2-30)

1. TPS to throttle body.

2. Adjust TPS.

Adjust

1. Connect DVM on "ohms" scale to TPS terminals "A" and "B". See Figure C2-31.

2. Insert 0.3mm (.012") feeler gage between throttle stop screw and throttle lever. See Figure C2-28.

3. With retaining screws loosely installed, turn TPS fully clockwise, then slowly counterclockwise just until DVM indicates zero ohms (continuity, switch closed). Tighten retaining screws to 2.0 N-m (18 lb. in.).

4. Remove feeler gage. DVM should still indicate zero ohms (continuity, switch closed).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
