REAR BRAKE GRINDING NOISE REPLACE BRAKE SHOES

Model and Year: 1990 J TRUCK (GEO TRACKER)

Some of the subject vehicles may exhibit a grinding noise during the first few brake applications after the vehicle has been parked for an extended period.

This condition may be variously described as a grinding or rubbing noise and is more common during damp weather. The noise disappears after the first few brake applications. However, this number will vary depending upon the weather, length of time parked and the type of brake usage. Normal function of brakes is not affected.

Corrective action is to replace the rear brake shoe assemblies with new parts which incorporate a changed lining material.

Parts are expected to be available on February 25, 1990. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be canceled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
