This information is to be added to page 2 of Section 2B in the 1989 GEO Tracker Service Manual.
This bulletin has been written to inform Dealer Technicians of the procedure for installing the front license plate on the 1989 Geo Tracker.
Many states do not require front license plates; therefore, the license plate mounting holes are not drilled through the attaching pad on the front facia. Use a drill diameter of 7/16" minimum to 1/2" maximum to drill the holes 1/8" above the dimples, located on the attaching pad on the front facia (refer to the illustration).
The expandable fastener supplied with the vehicle should be installed in the drilled holes and after the license plate is attached, tighten to 1.9 Nm.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
