Engine Control Module Replacement/Restore Fuel Rate Data w/o CTF

Restore Procedure

  1. Connect the Tech 2 to the 16 pin data link connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Record the broadcast code.
  4. Select the Special Function option.
  5. Select the Capture and Restore Fuel Rate Data option.
  6. Select the Capture Fuel Rate Data option then press Enter.
  7. Follow the display screen, then push Done.
  8. Important: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.

  9. Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.
  10. Turn the ignition OFF.

Removal Procedure

  1. Lift the passenger seat up.

  3. Remove the 3 bolts and the engine control module (ECM) cover from the passenger seat.

  4. Object Number: 1253390  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 4 screws connecting the ECM bracket to the right seat stand.

  6. Object Number: 1253384  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECM.
  8. Remove the relays from the ECM bracket.
  9. Pull the ECM and the bracket straight out.

  11. Remove the bracket from the ECM.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1253387  Size: SH
  1. Install the ECM bracket to the ECM.

  2. Object Number: 1253384  Size: SH
  3. Connect the relays to the ECM bracket.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Connect the ECM electrical connector.
  6. Tighten
    Tight the electrical connector retaining bolt to 2 N·m (17 lb in).

  7. Install the ECM with the bracket to the passenger seat with 4 screws.

  8. Object Number: 1253381  Size: SH
  9. Install the ECM cover with 3 bolts.
  10. Turn the ignition ON.
  11. Select the Restore Fuel Rate Data option then press Enter.
  12. Follow the display screen then push Done.
  13. Confirm the recorded ECM broadcast code.
  14. Start the vehicle.
  15. Inspect for a proper running condition and no DTCs.
  16. Perform the turbocharger learn procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Learn .

Engine Control Module Replacement/Restore Fuel Rate Data w/ CTF

Removal Procedure

  1. Retrieve the fuel flow rate data. Refer to Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming .
  2. Important: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.

  3. Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.
  4. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine control module (ECM).

  7. Remove the 6 ECM bolts and the ECM from the ECM bracket.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1388293  Size: SH
  1. Install the ECM to the ECM bracket with 6 bolts.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the ECM retaining bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Connect the ECM electrical connector.
  4. Start the vehicle.
  5. Inspect for a proper running condition and no DTCs.
  6. Lower the cab.
  7. Perform the turbocharger learn procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Learn .
