Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement With CTF

Removal Procedure
  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

    3. Object Number: 1369950 Size: SH
  3. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe from the EGR adapter and the reservoir. Refer Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement in Engine Controls - 7.8L.
  4. Remove the power steering hoses.
  5. Remove the vent hose.
  6. Clean the area around the valve rocker cover to the head cover mating surface.

  7. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  8. Remove the valve rocker arm cover and gasket.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover and gasket.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 736638 Size: SH
  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 13 N·m (113 lb in).

  3. Install the vent hose.

    4. Object Number: 1369950 Size: SH
  4. Install the EGR pipe to the EGR adapter and the reservoir. Refer Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement in Engine Controls - 7.8L.
  5. Install the power steering hoses.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  7. Lower the cab.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Without CTF

Removal Procedure
  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the vent hose.
  4. Clean the area around the valve rocker cover to the head cover mating surface.

  5. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  6. Remove the valve rocker arm cover and gasket.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover and gasket.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 13 N·m (113 lb in).

  3. Install the vent hose.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  5. Lower the cab.
