Circuit/System Description

Voltage is available at the heated mirror switch through the ignition circuit with the ignition switch in the ON position. When the heated mirror switch is closed, voltage is available at the heated mirrors through the mirror heating element control circuit. Each outside rearview mirror contains a heating element that is connected to a constant ground source. The mirror heating element will remain active until the switch is open or the ignition is placed in the OFF position.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, command the heated outside rearview mirrors ON and OFF by using the outside heated mirror switch. The outside rearview mirror heat elements and the heated mirror indicator should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the heated mirror switch.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the heated mirror switch.
  7. Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate outside rearview mirror.
  8. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the outside rearview mirror ground circuit terminal B and ground.
  9. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  10. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
  11. Ignition ON, command the heated mirrors ON and OFF with the heated mirror switch. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  12. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the heated mirror switch.
If the test lamp is always OFF , test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the heated mirror switch.
  13. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the heated mirror switch
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminal 2 and the ignition circuit terminal 1 with the switch in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the outside heated mirror switch.
  4. Test for less than 5 ohms between the control circuit terminal 2 and the ignition circuit terminal 1 with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace heated mirror switch.
