Seat Belt Retractor Replacement - Right Front AQQ, AQR
Removal Procedure
- Pry up the bottom of the
bolt cover in order to remove the cover from the door pillar.
Important: Discard the original bolts.
- Remove the seat belt and the shoulder bolt from the door pillar. Discard
the bolt.
- Remove the seat belt retractor bolt from the floor panel. Discard
the bolt.
- Remove the seat belt and the retractor from the vehicle.
- For the high back seat
belt bracket mounting, remove the seat belt bracket bolt from the seat.
- Remove the seat belt locking cable bolt from the floor panel
if equipped. Discard the bolt.
- Remove the seat belt bracket and the locking cable from the vehicle
if equipped.
- For the low back seat
belt bracket mounting, remove the seat belt bracket nut and washer.
- For the low back seat belt bracket mounting, remove the seat belt
bracket and the locking cable from the vehicle if equipped.
- Remove the seat belt bolt
sealers. Discard the sealers.
Installation Procedure
- Install the NEW seat belt
bolt sealers.
- For the low back seat
belt bracket mounting, install the seat belt bracket and the locking cable
(if equipped) to the vehicle.
- Install the NEW seat belt locking cable bolt to the floor panel
if equipped.
- Tighten the seat belt bracket locking cable bolt so that the bolt
is completely driven, seated and unstripped.
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude behind the nut. |
• | Inspect the bolts after installation. |
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude beyond the nut or
the anchor plate. |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- For
the low back seat belt bracket mounting, install the seat belt bracket nut
and washer.
Tighten
Tighten the low back seat belt bracket bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- For the high back seat
belt bracket mounting, install the seat belt bracket and the locking cable
(if equipped) to the vehicle.
- Install the NEW seat belt locking cable bolt if equipped to the
floor panel.
- Tighten the seat belt locking cable bolt so that the bolt is completely
driven, seated and unstripped.
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude beyond the nut. |
• | Inspect the bolts after installation. |
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude beyond the nut or
the anchor plate. |
- For high back bracket mounting, install the seat belt bracket
bolt to the seat.
Tighten
Tighten the high back seat belt bracket bolt to 90 N·m
(66 lb ft).
- Install the seat belt
and the retractor to the vehicle.
- Install the NEW seat belt retractor bolt to the floor.
- Tighten the seat belt retractor bolt so that the bolt is completely
driven, seated and unstripped.

• | Inspect the bolts after installation. |
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude beyond the nut or
the anchor plate. |
- Install the NEW seat belt
and the shoulder bolt to the door pillar.
- Tighten the seat belt and the shoulder bolt so that the bolt is
completely driven, seated and unstripped.
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude from behind the
nut. |
• | Inspect the bolts after installation. |
• | Ensure that a minimum of two threads protrude from behind the
nut or the anchor plate. |
- Install the cover over the door pillar anchor plate.
