Inspect the stoplamp switch for proper adjustment. Ensure that the stoplamp switch plunger is pressed in when the brakes are not applied.

Is the stoplamp switch properly adjusted?

Adjust the stoplamp switch.

Do the stoplamps remain ON with the brake pedal released?

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the harness connector from the stoplamp switch.

Are the rear stoplamps ON?

Go to Step 5

Replace the shorted stoplamp switch.

Do the stoplamps remain ON with the brake pedal released?

  1. Disconnect the harness connector from the turn/hazard flasher module.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the turn/hazard flasher module harness connector terminal 2 and chassis ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 6

Locate and repair the short to voltage on CKT 471 (WHT) between the stoplamp switch and terminal 2 in the turn/hazard flasher module harness connector.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Replace the turn/hazard flasher module.

Test the stoplamp switch for a short across terminal A and terminal B.

Does the stoplamp switch have a short?

Replace the shorted stoplamp switch.

  1. Disconnect the harness connector from the turn/hazard flasher module.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the turn/hazard flasher module harness connector terminal 2 and chassis ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the short to voltage on one or more of the following circuits between the stoplamp switch and terminal 2 in the turn/hazard flasher module harness connector:

    • CKT 104 (WHT)
    • CKT 105 (WHT)

Is the repair complete?
