Removal Procedure
- Shift the axle control switch to the LOW range.
- Remove the wiring harness clip nut (1).
- Remove the wiring harness clip (2) from the stud.
- Disconnect the wiring harness connector.
- Remove the shift motor assembly mounting stud nuts (1) and washers (2).
- Remove the shift motor assembly (6).
- Remove the spring from the shift fork (4).
- Remove the seal (5) from the differential carrier housing (3).
Installation Procedure
- Install the seal (5) onto the differential carrier housing (3).
- Install the spring onto the shift fork (4).
- Lubricate the shift fork (4) and the shift motor assembly
activator lever using a thin coat of rear axle lubricant.
Important: Ensure that the motor lever engages with the shift fork (4).
- Install the shift motor assembly (6) onto the mounting studs.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the washers (2)
and the shift motor mounting stud nuts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts (1) to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
- Connect the wiring harness connector to the shift motor assembly.
- Install the wiring harness clip (2) onto the stud.
- Install the wiring harness clip nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts (1) to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Verify proper operation of the system.
