Removal Procedure
- Tilt the cab. Refer to
Cab Tilting
in General Information.
- Place a container under
the power steering reservoir.
- Clean the surfaces of the power steering reservoir hoses.
- Use a J 42971
in order to disconnect the power steering reservoir hoses (2, 3).
- Slide the appropriate end of the J 42971
between the metal fitting and the quick release seal.
Wedge the seal in the direction of the arrow stamped on the seal.
- Disconnect the hoses from the reservoir (1).
Important: Cap the hoses in order to prevent dirt from entering the system.
- Allow the reservoir to drain.
- Remove the following components:

Important: The ABS control module is only on the vehicles equipped with ABS.
- Remove the following components:
• | The overflow hose clamp |
• | The relay panel (non-ABS) |
Installation Procedure
- Position the following
components on the vehicle:
• | The overflow hose clamp |
Important: The ABS control module is only on the vehicles equipped with ABS.
- Position the ABS control module (2) on the vehicle .
- Install the relay panel (non-ABS only).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the following
components:
Tighten
Tighten the reservoir mounting bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Connect the hoses (2,
3) to the reservoir.
- Fill the system with new power steering fluid.
- Bleed the system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Lower the cab.
