Did you review the system operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Start the engine.

Does the engine oil pressure gauge display that the oil pressure is within the normal operating range?

10-70 psi (69-483 kPa)

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the engine oil pressure gauge sensor.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. The engine oil pressure gauge should indicate the specified value.

Does the engine oil pressure gauge display at or below the specified value?

0 psi (0 kPa)

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the oil pressure sensor and a good ground.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. The engine oil pressure gauge should indicate the specified value.

Does the engine oil pressure gauge display at or above the specified value?

80 psi (550 kPa)

Test the signal circuit of the oil pressure sensor for an open, a high resistance, or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the signal circuit of the oil pressure sensor for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for a high resistance or a poor connection at the case ground of the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
