For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Remove the cylinder liner retaining bolts and washers.

  2. Object Number: 736698  Size: SH
  3. Apply RTV sealant (Three Bond 1207C or equivalent) to the rear corners of the cylinder block.

  4. Object Number: 736703  Size: SH
  5. Install the cylinder head gasket with the part number facing up.

  6. Object Number: 736708  Size: MH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Apply a small amount of molybdenum grease to the M14 bolts.

  7. Install the M14 cylinder head bolts to the cylinder head.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the M14 cylinder head bolts in the following steps:

    • First step: 98 N·m (72 lb ft)
    • Second step: 147 N·m (108 lb ft)
    • Third step: Tighten all the M14 cylinder head bolts an additional 45 degrees.

    Important: Apply clean engine oil to the M10 bolts.

  9. Install the M10 cylinder head bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the M10 bolts to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).

  11. Install both of the thermostats.
  12. Install the thermostat housing with the gasket.
  13. Install the thermostat housing bolts to the cylinder block.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).
