Did you perform the Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Verify that the stoplamps are inoperative.

Do the stoplamps operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Inspect the STOP LP fuse in the underhood fuse block.

Is the fuse open?

Go to Step 6

  1. Remove the stoplamp switch and install a fused jumper between the connector terminal A and terminal B.
  2. Connect a test lamp from ground to either rear turn signal switch signal circuit terminal at connector C211. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test for an open or high resistance in the stoplamp switch signal circuit and battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Was a problem found?

Go to Step 7

Repair short to ground in the battery positive voltage, stoplamp switch signal, or either one of the rear turn signal switch signal circuits. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 10

Repair the open or high resistance in the stoplamp switch signal circuit or battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

Replace the multifunction turn signal switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard or Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
