Important: A short to ground will cause an open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

1. Move the power mirror select switch to the LEFT position.
2. Use a test lamp in order to backprobe the power mirror switch between terminal E and terminal J (Fand H Pontiac).
3. Move the power mirror switch to the following positions:

•	The LEFT position

•	The RIGHT position

Does the test lamp light with the switch in both positions?

--

Go to Step 2

Go to Step 4

1. Use a test lamp in order to backprobe the power mirror switch between terminal E and terminal K (G and H Pontiac)
2. Move the power mirror switch to the following positions:

•	The UP position

•	The DOWN position

Does the test lamp light with the switch in both positions?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

1. Disconnect the left mirror motor connector.
2. Connect a test lamp between terminal A of the left mirror motor harness connector and ground.
3. Move the power mirror switch to the LEFT position.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Replace the power mirror switch. Refer to Rear Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

1. Connect a test lamp between terminal B of the left mirror motor harness connector and ground.
2. Move the power mirror switch to the RIGHT position.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 8

Repair the open in CKT 82 between the power mirror switch and the left mirror motor. Refer to Wiring Repair in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

1. Connect a test lamp between terminal C of the left mirror motor harness connector and ground.
2. Move the power mirror switch to the DOWN position (Oldsmobile) and to the UP position (Pontiac).

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 9

Repair the open in CKT 81 between the power mirror switch and the left mirror motor. Refer to Wiring Repair in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

Replace the left mirror motor. Refer to Outside Rearview Mirror Replacement .

Repair the open in CKT 89 (Oldsmobile) or CKT 88 (Pontiac) between the power mirror switch and the left mirror motor. Refer to Wiring Repair in Wiring Systems.

1. Disconnect the right mirror motor connector.
2. Connect a test lamp between terminal A of the right mirror motor harness connector and ground.
3. Move the power mirror switch to the LEFT position.

Does the test lamp light?

Replace the power mirror switch. Refer to Rear Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

1. Connect a test lamp between terminal B of the right mirror motor harness connector and ground.
2. Move the power mirror switch to the RIGHT position.

Repair the open in CKT 90 between the power mirror switch and the right mirror motor. Refer to Wiring Repair in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

1. Connect a test lamp between terminal C of the right mirror motor harness connector and ground.
2. Move the power mirror switch to the DOWN position (Oldsmobile) and to the Up position (Pontiac).

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 9

Repair the open in CKT 881 between the power mirror switch and the right mirror motor. Refer to Wiring Repair in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the right mirror motor. Refer to Outside Rearview Mirror Replacement .
