Some customers may comment that the cupholder (1), located next to the parking brake lever, is too small to hold certain size beverage containers.

Correction

Replace the floor console assembly (2) and the floor console shift lever trim plate (3) using the following procedure. For additional information, see the Seats and Instrument Panel/Console sub-sections of the Body & Accessories section of the appropriate Service Manual.

  1. Remove the driver and passenger front seats.
  2. Remove the metal retaining clip and remove the shift handle.
  3. Remove the fastener cover from each forward side of the console.
  4. Remove the fastener from each forward side of the console.
  5. Remove the middle fastener from each side of the console.
  6. Remove the rubber mat from the bottom of the storage compartment and remove the two fasteners.
  7. Carefully pull up on the console shift lever trim plate to release it from the console assembly.
  8. Disconnect the shift indicator bulb socket and the electrical connector for the Electronic Traction Control Switch (if equipped).
  9. Remove the console shift lever trim plate.
  10. Remove the console assembly.
  11. Remove the three screws attaching the console storage compartment cover and hinge to the console. Remove the cover.
  12. Position the cover and hinge on the new console and install the three screws.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  14. Remove the four screws attaching the shift indicator to the bottom side of the console shift lever trim plate.
  15. Position the shift indicator on the new console shift lever trim plate and install the four screws.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  17. Transfer the Electronic Traction Control Switch to the new console shift lever trim plate.
  18. Install the new console assembly in the vehicle.
  19. Install the middle fastener on each side of the console.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 7 N·m (61 lb in).

  21. Install the fastener on each forward side of the console.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  23. Install the fastener cover on each forward side of the console.
  24. Install the two rear console fasteners in the bottom of the storage compartment.
  25. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 7 N·m (61 lb in).

  26. Install the rubber mat in the bottom of the storage compartment.
  27. Connect the shift indicator bulb socket and the Electronic Traction Control Switch (if equipped) connector.
  28. Position and align the new console shift lever trim plate to the new console assembly.
  29. Carefully press the new console shift lever trim plate down along all sides to seat it in the console assembly.
  30. Install the handle on the shift lever and install the retaining clip.
  31. Position the driver and passenger seats in the vehicle and install the bolts.
  32. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
