Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure

    Important: Perform the BCM theft deterrent relearn procedure whenever you replace the ignition switch lock cylinder.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove instrument panel (I/P) accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 737491  Size: SH
  4. Insert the key to the ignition lock cylinder.
  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the switch:
  6. 4.1. Using a small curved tool or an L-shaped hex wrench, depress and hold the detent on the ignition lock cylinder. If you cannot locate the detent with the tool, remove the radio. View the detent through the radio opening. Refer to Radio Replacement .
    4.2. Turn the key to the ON/RUN position.
    4.3. Pull the ignition lock cylinder out with the key.
  7. Remove the key from the lock cylinder.
  8. If the cylinder does not rotate or is seized, follow the procedure in the ignition switch replacement. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Code the ignition switch lock cylinder, if necessary. Refer to Key and Lock Cylinder Coding .
  2. Insert the key and turn the lock cylinder to the ON/RUN position.
  3. Install the lock cylinder to the ignition switch. If you turned the key slightly while removing the lock cylinder, you may have to align the white colored ignition switch rotor (1) with the lock cylinder (2). You can rotate the ignition switch rotor (1) with your finger.
  4. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key.
  5. If necessary, install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  6. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  8. If a new lock cylinder was installed, perform the BCM theft deterrent relearn procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .

Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

    Important: Perform the BCM theft deterrent relearn procedure whenever you replace the ignition switch lock cylinder.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the ignition switch bezel from the ignition switch, using a small flat-bladed tool.
  3. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  4. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the switch:
  5. 4.1. Insert the key and turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ON/RUN position.
    4.2. Using a small flat-bladed tool through the radio access, depress and hold the lock cylinder detent.
    4.3. Pull the lock cylinder from the switch with the key.
  6. Remove the key from the lock cylinder.
  7. If the ignition cylinder does not rotate or is seized, follow the procedure in the ignition switch replacement. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Code the ignition switch lock cylinder, if necessary. Refer to Key and Lock Cylinder Coding .
  2. Insert the key and turn the lock cylinder to the ON/RUN position.
  3. Install the lock cylinder to the ignition switch. If you turned the key slightly while removing the lock cylinder, you may have to align the white colored ignition switch rotor (1) with the lock cylinder (2). You can rotate the ignition switch rotor (1) with your finger.
  4. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key.
  5. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  6. Install the bezel to the ignition switch. Press the bezel into place until fully seated.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  8. If a new ignition switch lock cylinder was installed, perform the BCM theft deterrent relearn procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .
