Makes 🢒 Oldsmobile 🢒 2003 🢒 Alero 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Electrical 🢒 Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR .
  4. Remove the side upper garnish moldings from the windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  5. For the Oldsmobile only, remove the I/P upper trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Plate Replacement .
  6. For the Pontiac only, remove the I/P defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  7. Remove the I/P insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side and to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  8. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  9. Remove the passenger inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  10. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  11. For the Oldsmobile only, disconnect the vacuum hose harness and the electrical connectors from the HVAC control assembly.
  12. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  13. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  14. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  15. For the Pontiac only, remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  16. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  17. Remove the multifunction turn signal lever. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  18. Remove the cup holder. Refer to Front Floor Console Cup Holder Replacement .
  19. Remove the bracket fasteners to the floor console center support. Refer to Floor Console Bracket Replacement .
  20. Remove the bolts from the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  21. For the Oldsmobile only, remove the hazard warning switch. Refer to Hazard Warning Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  22. Remove the fog lamp switch. Refer to Fog Lamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  23. Disconnect the outboard electrical connections from the electrical junction block.
  24. Remove the screws connecting the I/P to the cross car beam.
  25. On the Pontiac, remove the I/P from the I/P reinforcement.

    26. Object Number: 778258 Size: SH
  26. On the Oldsmobile, remove the I/P from the I/P reinforcement.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 778258 Size: SH
  1. Transfer components to the new I/P as necessary.
  2. On the Oldsmobile, install the I/P to the I/P reinforcement.

    3. Object Number: 778252 Size: SH
  3. On the Pontiac, install the I/P to the I/P reinforcement.
  4. Install the screws connecting the I/P to the I/P reinforcement.
  5. Connect the outboard connectors to the electrical junction block.
  6. Install the fog lamp switch. Refer to Fog Lamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  7. For the Oldsmobile only, install the hazard warning switch. Refer to Hazard Warning Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  8. Install the bolts to the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  9. Install the bracket fasteners to the floor console center support. Refer to Floor Console Bracket Replacement .
  10. Install the cup holder. Refer to Front Floor Console Cup Holder Replacement .
  11. Install the multifunction turn signal lever. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  12. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  13. For the Pontiac only, install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  14. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  15. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  16. For the Oldsmobile only, connect the vacuum hose harness and the electrical connectors to the HVAC control assembly.
  17. Install the trim plate to the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  18. For the Oldsmobile only, connect the vacuum hose harness and the electrical connectors to the HVAC control assembly.
  19. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  20. Install the passenger inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  21. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  22. Install the I/P insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side and to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  23. Install the I/P defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  24. For the Oldsmobile only, install the I/P upper trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Plate Replacement .
  25. Install the side upper garnish moldings to the windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  26. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  27. Install the I/P outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  28. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
