Removal Procedure
- Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
- Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner (6).
- Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley (3).
- Remove the engine front cover bolts.
- Remove the engine front cover.
- Remove the engine front cover gasket. The gasket is reusable.
Do not discard.
Installation Procedure
- Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and
lower crankcases.
- Place the front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
- Place the front cover in position on the crankcase.
- Install the front cover retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the front cover retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
- Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the accessory drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 N·m
(37 lb ft).
- Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Install the accessory drive belt tensioner bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the accessory drive belt tensioner bolt to 50 N·m
(37 lb ft).
- Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement

- Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
.
