- Install the engine to transmission bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the engine to transmission bolts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the flywheel to converter bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the flywheel to converter bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the flywheel cover.
- Install the engine to transmission brace at the oil pan.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the engine to transmission brace at the right bank, toward
the rear of the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Install the engine to transmission brace at the left bank, front
and rear of the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
- With the powertrain on a dolly, move the powertrain into the approximate
position under the vehicle.
- Lower the vehicle onto the powertrain.
- Align the powertrain frame to the body.
- Install the mounting bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 192 N·m (142 lb ft).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the dolly.
- Install the J 28467-A
.
- Install the left transmission mount.
- Install the air conditioning and muffler to the rear of the air
conditioning compressor.
- Install the oil filter adapter to the engine block.
- Install the oil filter adapter bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Connect the engine oil cooler hoses to the adapter.
Tighten
Tighten the oil cooler fittings to 18 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Install the left axle shaft to the hub assembly.
- Install the left tie-rod to the steering knuckle.
- Install the left ball joint to the steering knuckle.
- Install the pinch bolt to the steering gear intermediate shaft.
- Install the right axle shaft to the hub assembly.
- Install the right tie-rod to the steering knuckle.
- Install the right ball joint to the steering knuckle.
- Connect the electrical connector to the steering gear.
- Install the right and left side splash shields.
- Install both front wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable to the engine block.
- Install the front engine mount bolts to the torque axis bracket.
- Install the through bolt to engine torque axis mount.
- Connect the positive battery cable to the junction block.
- Remove the J 28467-A
.
- Connect the vacuum and electrical connectors at the cruise servo.
- Install the vacuum reservoir.
- Connect the shift control cable to the transmission shift lever.
- Install the shift control cable retaining bracket.
- Connect the vacuum hose to the brake booster.
- Connect the heater hoses to the coolant
pipes at the rear of the engine.
- Connect the lower transmission cooler hose to the transmission.
- Connect the upper transmission cooler hose to the
radiator.
- Connect the lower radiator hose to the
thermostat housing.
- Connect the upper radiator hose to the
coolant crossover.
- Connect the coolant hoses to the surge tank.
- Connect the engine wire harness to the bulk head.
- Connect the throttle (1) and cruise control
(2) cables to the throttle body.
- Connect the vacuum hose to the rear of the intake.
- Connect the fuel feed (1) and return (2)
lines.
- Refill the oil level.
- Refill the coolant level. Refer to Engine Coolant Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Install the air cleaner intake duct.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Recharge the air conditioning. Refer to SECTION 1C.
