Removal Procedure

Lower

  1. Remove the upper radiator core support brace.
  2. Remove the left cooling fan. Refer to Electric Cooling Fan in Cooling and Radiator.

  3. Object Number: 97457  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the cooler line fitting at the radiator (lower).
  5. Remove the air intake duct.

  6. Object Number: 97458  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the cooler line fitting at the transmission.
  8. Remove the cooler line from the vehicle.

Upper

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling in Cooling and Radiator.
  2. Remove the air intake duct.

  4. Remove the cooler line fitting at the radiator (upper).

  5. Object Number: 97461  Size: SH
  6. Remove the cooler line retainer bracket nut at the transmission.
  7. Remove the coolant hoses from the reservoir. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Cooling and Radiator.
  8. Remove the shift control cable at the transmission.
  9. Remove the cable retaining bracket at the transmission.
  10. Remove the vacuum line from the brake booster.
  11. Remove the transmission vent hose from the retainer.
  12. Remove the shift lever from the shift shaft.
  13. Remove the park/neutral position switch from the transmission.
  14. Disconnect the 2 electrical harness connectors at the rear of the intake.
  15. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  16. Remove the complete exhaust system.
  17. Remove the right manifold to the crossover pipe.
  18. Remove the cooler line at the transmission.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Remove the cooler line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Lower


    Object Number: 97458  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooler line fitting at the transmission.

  2. Object Number: 97457  Size: SH
  3. Install the cooler line fitting at the radiator.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the fitting at the transmission to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
        • Tighten the fittings at the radiator to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the air intake duct.
  6. Install the left cooling fan. Refer to Electric Cooling Fan in Cooling and Radiator.
  7. Install the upper radiator core support brace.
  8. Check the transmission fluid. Add transmission fluid as required.

Upper


    Object Number: 97457  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooler line into position.
  2. Finger tighten the fitting at the radiator.

  3. Object Number: 97461  Size: SH
  4. Finger tighten the fitting at the transmission.
  5. Install the nut onto the cooler line retainer bracket at the transmission.
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten the fitting at the transmission to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
        • Tighten the fitting at the radiator to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
        • Tighten the retainer nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
  7. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  8. Install the right manifold crossover.
  9. Install the exhaust system.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the electrical connectors.
  12. Install and adjust the park/neutral position switch and adjust.
  13. Install the shift lever onto the shift shaft.
  14. Install the vacuum line to the brake booster.
  15. Install the transmission vent hose to the retainer.
  16. Install the cable retainer bracket at the transmission
  17. Install the shift control cable at the transmission
  18. Connect the coolant hose to the reservoir.
  19. Install the air intake duct.
  20. Check and fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling in Cooling and Radiator.
  21. Check the transmission fluid. Add transmission fluid as required.
