Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 52998  Size: SH
  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  4. Disconnect the shift selector cable.
  5. Remove the throttle cable bracket
  6. Remove the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement or Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  7. Remove the EGR pipe at the throttle body spacer.

  9. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from housing.

  10. Object Number: 71141  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.

  12. Object Number: 69921  Size: SH
  13. Remove the water pump belt cover.
  14. Remove the water pump belt tensioner.
  15. Remove the water pump belt.
  16. Remove the throttle body spacer. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement or Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  17. Remove the EGR. Refer to EGR in Engine Controls.
  18. Disconnect the EGR pipe from the water crossover.
  19. Disconnect the park neutral switch.

  21. Remove the water pump cover.

  23. Remove the water crossover from the engine.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 53229  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the water crossover on the engine.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the water crossover bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the water pump cover.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the water pump cover to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the park neutral switch.
  6. Connect the EGR pipe to the water crossover and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  7. Install the EGR and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft). Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.
  8. Install the throttle body spacer. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement or Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

  10. Install the water pump belt.
  11. Install the water pump belt tensioner.
  12. Install the water pump drive cover.

  13. Object Number: 71141  Size: SH
  14. Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing.

  15. Object Number: 71140  Size: SH
  16. Connect the upper radiator hose to the housing.
  17. Install the EGR pipe to the throttle body spacer.

  18. Object Number: 52998  Size: SH
  19. Install the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement or Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  20. Install the throttle cable bracket.
  21. Connect the shift selector cable.
  22. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  23. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  24. Refill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
