Did you perform the Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) System Check?

  1. Turn the
  2. ignition switch to OFF.

  3. Disconnect the theft deterrent relay.
  4. Connect a fused jumper between the theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal C1 and terminal A2.
  5. Attempt to start the vehicle.

Does the vehicle start?

Does the engine crank?

Measure the voltage between the theft deterrent relay harness connector C2 CKT 806 and ground while trying to start the engine.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

10-15 V

  1. Disconnect the PCM connector C1 (BLU).
  2. Measure the resistance between terminal C2 and ground.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Inspect the following theft deterrent module terminals for proper connections:

  1. Terminal A1
  2. Terminal A2
  3. Terminal B2
  4. Terminal B5
  5. Terminal B6

Are the terminal connections OK?

Test the following power and ground circuits to the theft deterrent module for an open or short to ground:

  1. CKT 439
  2. CKT 1020
  3. CKT 1642

Are the circuits OK?

  1. Repair the short to ground in CKT 1433. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Reconnect the PCM connector C1.

Is the procedure complete?

Inspect the IP fuse block crank fuse

Is the fuse OK?

Test CKT 806 for an open.

Is the wiring OK?

While trying to start the engine, measure the voltage between the theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal C2 and terminal A1.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

10-15 V

    • Inspect the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch for proper operation and terminal contact.
    • Inspect the theft deterrent module terminal A4 for proper connections.

Is the terminal contact OK?

  2. CKT 575

Are the circuits OK?
