Removal Procedure
- Remove the trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
- On the passenger door only, disconnect the temperature control
electrical connector.
- Remove the door trim hanger bracket fasteners and bracket from
the door (Oldsmobile front doors only).
- Remove the water deflector.

- Drill out the rivets (1)
securing the inside remote door handle (2) to the door.
- Remove the inside remote door handle mounting screw.
- Disengage the wire harness retaining clip.
- Disconnect the outside
handle to the lock rod.
Important: The lock rod clip is very fragile.
- Disconnect the lock cylinder to lock rod (1).
- Remove the fasteners from
the door lock.
- Remove the inside handle, rods (2,3) & lock (1)
partially from the door.
- Disconnect the three electrical connectors from the lock.
- Remove the door latch assembly from the door.
- Disconnect the rods from
the inside remote door handle assembly (2).
Installation Procedure
- Connect the rods to the
inside remote door handle assembly (2).
- Install the door latch
assembly to the door.
- Connect the three electrical connectors to the lock.
- Install the inside handle, rods (2,3) & lock (1)
to the door.
- Install the three fasteners to the door lock.
Important: The lock rod clip is very fragile.
- Connect the lock rod (1) to the lock cylinder.
- Connect the outside handle (2)
to the lock rod.
- Connect the wire harness
and retaining clip.
- Install the inside remote door handle mounting screw.
- Install new peel-type rivets (1), in order to secure the
inside door handle (2) to the door.
- Install the water deflector.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the door
trim hanger bracket and fasteners.
Tighten
Tighten the front fastener first to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Tighten
Tighten the rearward fastener last to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Place the door trim panel near the door.
- Connect the lumbar, seat heater and door lock electrical connectors.
- On the passenger door, connect the temperature control
electrical connector.
