Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
  2. •  Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement

  3. Remove the upper part of the water deflector (1). Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the harness from the latch.
  5. Remove the outside handle rod and the lock cylinder rod from the latch.

  6. Object Number: 284132  Size: SH
  7. Remove the rivets (1) from the inside handle (2).
  8. Remove the 3 screws from the lock assembly.
  9. Remove the following components from the door:
  10. • The inside handle (2)
    • The rods
    • The latch assembly
  11. Remove the inside handle rod and the inside lock rod.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 284134  Size: SH
  1. Connect the inside handle rod and the inside lock rod to the inside handle.
  2. Assure the attaching clip is present on the handle before attaching the rods.
  3. If a clip is damaged or broken, replace with a new clip.
  4. Observe the purple paint mark that indicates how the rods cross.
  5. Ensure that the purple mark on the sleeveless rod is clearly visible where it crosses the sleeved rod near the rear section of the access hole on the Oldsmobile (2) and inboard of the lock knob rod on the Buick (1).

  6. Install the following components to the door:
  7. • The inside handle (2)
    • The rods
    • The latch assembly
  8. Install the 3 screws to the lock assembly.
  9. Install the rivets (1) to the inside handle (2).

  10. Object Number: 501175  Size: SH
  11. Ensure the lock rods (3) are secured to the anti-rattle clip (4).
  12. Install the outside handle rod and the lock cylinder rod to the latch.
  13. Connect the harness to the latch assembly.
  14. Install the upper part of the water deflector (1). Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  15. Install the trim panel. Refer to one of the following procedures:
  16. •  Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
    •  Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement
