Rear Side Door Outside Handle Replacement Oldsmobile

1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
2. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
3. Remove the outside door handle rod from the latch.
4. Remove the 2 screws from the handle assembly.
5. Gently flex the lower ribs to the side in order to disengage the ribs from the outer panel flange.
6. Remove the outside door handle.

1. Install the outside door handle.
2. Apply pressure at the lower portion of the handle assembly in order to snap the ribs in place.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the 2 screws.

Tighten
Tighten the 2 screws to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

4. Install the door handle rod to the door latch.

Push up on the outside handle rod in order to remove excess play in the system.

5. Install the rod in the clip.
6. Close the clip.

Important: Inspect the operation of the door handle assembly before installing the water deflector and trim panel.

7. Inspect the door handle operation.
8. Install the water deflector. Refer to Door Water Deflector Replacement .
9. Install the trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
