Rear Compartment Lid Release Inoperative Buick

  1. Place the gear selector in the PARK position.
  2. Place the valet switch in the UNLOCK position.
  3. Remove rear compartment lid release relay position A.
  4. While observing the test lamp, connect the test lamp between the following terminals:
  5. • Between relay terminal B1 and ground
    • Between relay terminal B3 and ground

Does the test lamp light when you perform both of the above connections?

  1. Test the rear compartment release fuse.
  2. Test for an open or short in CKT 1140, ORN.

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Connect a test lamp between relay terminal B1 and terminal A3.
  2. Place the valet switch in the ON position.
  3. Press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp light?

--

  1. Remove rear compartment lid release relay position A.
  2. Close the rear compartment lid.
  3. Momentarily connect a fused jumper across rear compartment lid release relay terminal B3 and terminal 1.

Does the rear compartment lid open?

--

  1. Inspect for proper contact at the relay terminals.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release relay.

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Connect a fused jumper across rear compartment lid release relay terminal B3 and terminal A1.
  3. Connect a test lamp between rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminal A and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Test for an open in CKT 56, BLK/WHT.

Is the symptom still present?

Connect a test lamp between rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminal A and terminal B.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for proper terminal contact at the rear compartment lid release actuator connector.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release actuator.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Test for an open in CKT 1050, BLK.
  2. Inspect for proper terminal contact at ground G302.

  1. Connect a fused jumper between relay terminal A3 and terminal B1.
  2. Disconnect the valet switch.
  3. Connect a test lamp between valet switch terminal C and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Connect a test lamp between valet switch connector terminal C and terminal D.
  2. Press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for proper contact at the valet switch connector.
  2. If OK, replace the valet switch.

Is the symptom still present?

  2. Place the valet switch in the UNLOCK (ON) position.
  3. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  4. Connect a test lamp between switch connector terminal B and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Is the symptom still present?

Connect a test lamp between rear compartment lid release switch terminal A and terminal B.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for the proper terminal contact at the rear compartment lid release switch connector.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release switch.

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Disconnect the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between PARK/NEUTRAL position switch connector terminal A and ground.
  3. Reinstall the rear compartment lid release switch.
  4. Activate the switch.

Does the test lamp light?

Test for an open in CKT 434, ORN/BLK.

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Connect a test lamp between PARK/NEUTRAL position switch connector terminal A and terminal D.
  2. Activate the rear commpartment release switch.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for proper terminal contact at the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch connector.
  2. If OK, replace the PARK/NEUTRAL position switch.

Is the repair complete?

  2. If OK, repair for proper terminal contact at ground G101.

  2. Disconnect the valet switch connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp between valet switch connector terminal B, BLK, and ground.
  4. Press and hold the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Test for an open or short to ground in CKT 1576, BLK.
  2. Inspect the release switch connector for proper terminal contact.
  3. If OK, replace the release switch.

  1. Connect the valet switch connector.
  2. Place the valet switch in the ON position.
  3. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator connector.
  4. Connect a test lamp between rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminal A, BLK/WHT, and ground.
  5. Press and hold the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Test CKT 1050, BLK, for an open.
  2. Inspect the rear compartment lid release actuator connector for proper terminal contact.
  3. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release actuator.

Is the repair complete?

Test the resistance through the valet switch.

Is the resistance measured within the specified range?

Less than 5 ohms

Go to Step 9

Replace the valet switch.

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Inspect the valet switch connector for the proper terminal contact.
  2. If OK, repair an open or short in CKT 56, BLK/WHT.
