Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the following parameters in the instrument cluster (IPC) data list:
  4. • Trip Odometer A/B Switch
    • Trip Reset Switch
  5. Press the Trip Reset button and the Trip A/B button one at a time.

Does the scan tool display On when each switch is pressed?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Does the scan tool display On when any switch is pressed?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the trip odometer reset switch.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the signal circuit of the suspect trip odometer reset switch and a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Step 6

Test the signal circuit of the suspected trip odometer reset switch for a high resistance, for a short to battery voltage or for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 11

Test the ground circuit of the trip odometer reset switch for a open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the trip odometer reset switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the trip odometer reset switch. Refer to Trip Odometer Reset Switch Replacement .

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the IPC DTCs.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
