Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
ā¢ | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
ā¢ | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
ā¢ | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
.
- Remove the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
- Partially remove the console mounting bracket in order to allow access
to the rear carpet. Refer to
Floor Console Bracket Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Position the rear carpet in order to access
the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
- Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) from the SDM (1).
- Remove the nuts that retain the SDM to the floor panel.
- Remove the SDM from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the SDM to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nuts that retain the SDM to the floor panel.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 12 NĀ·m (106 lb in).
- Connect the electrical connectors (2)
to the SDM (1).
- Return the carpet to the fully installed position.
- Install the console mounting bracket to the floor panel. Refer to
Floor Console Bracket Replacement
in Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Install the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
Important: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. DTC B1001
may set requiring the SDM part number to be set in multiple modules. If the indicator
remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and
follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
.
