1986 OLDSMOBILE CALAIS
A durability feature on 1986 Oldsmobile Calais models is a chip resistant material applied to the lower portion of the car body, which is then covered by the car's paint finish. We have found that on some of these cars, the adhesion between the two materials may be inadequate. On the affected cars, this condition may result in flaking or chipping of the paint finish from these lower portions of the car's body.
General Motors will refinish all areas of the lower portion of the vehicle body in which the chip resistant material was applied should those areas exhibit excessive chipping or flaking of the basecoat/clearcoat finish.
Refer to Dealer Technical Bulletin 86-T-65 for information regarding the service procedure and dealer claim submission.
This Special Policy covers both materials and labor for a period of three (3) years from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of mileage.
This "Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin" should be filed in the 3-ring binder furnished to the dealer by General Motors.
Owners of vehicles involved in this Special Policy will be notified by Oldsmobile Division. A copy of the Owner Letter is provided below.

Dear Oldsmobile Owner:
A durability feature on 1986 Oldsmobile Calais models is a chip resistant material on the lower portion of the car body, which is then covered bv the car's paint finish. Oldsmobile will pay for refinishing all areas of the lower portion of the vehicle body in which the chip resistant material was applied if these areas exhibit excessive chipping or flaking of the paint finish. This service will be performed by your Olds- mobile dealer at no charge to you.
This Special Policy covers both materials and labor for a period of three (3) years from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of mileage.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
