CHECKING CORRECT FLUID LEVEL INDICATOR LOCATION / TRANSAXLE

MODELS/YEARS: 1987 FIRENZA WITH 2.8L ENGINE

This bulletin supplements Dealer Technical Bulletin 87-T-04.

o TRANSAXLE MODELS: RRA, RRB, RRD, and DAN Refer to Figure 3 for Transaxle Identification Information.

o BULLETIN COVERS: Correct fluid level checking and indicator location for a 1987 MUNCIE 5-speed MG282 manual transaxle.

o SERVICE ACTION: There may be instances when technicians are replacing the fill tubs plug (part number 10046677) with a fluid level indicator that goes into similar transaxles (see Figure 1). An overfill condition can result along with hard shifting effort if this wrong indicator is installed (see Figure 2). The transaxle already has a fluid level indicator that screws into the case that will show the required fluid level (see Figure 2).

o SERVICE MANUAL REFERENCE: Refer to Section 7B3 of the 1987 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual, Vol. 1 for specific service procedures.

o LIMITED REPAIR & EXCHANGE PROCEDURE: Refer to Dealer Technical Bullatin 87-T-04 regarding repairs which may be dealer service or which require unit exchange.

o CORRECT FLUID USE: Use GM part number 1052931, manual transaxle fluid, Grade 5W-30 or equivalent. Page 3 of Dealer Technical Bulletin 87-T-04, Warranty Claim Processing Procedure, lists the term "transmission fluid". For clarification, please note correct fluid use on page 3 of Dealer Technical Bulletin 87-T-04.
