The following correction applies to 1985-1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais and 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais built prior to February 1, 1989 VIN KM258382 with console mounted ashtray.
1. Remove the console mounted cigarette lighter and housing following the proper service manual procedures.
2. Disengage the black wire terminal from the 2 wire cigarette lighter connector. This terminal will be used for the ground connection on the new lighter housing retainer.
3. Cut off the orange feed wire terminal end and discard with the lighter connector body.
4. Splice the new power feed wire and terminal end part number 12112171 to the orange feed wire using proper wire harness repair procedures as described in the service manual.
5. Install new cigarette lighter housing part number 25510975 and retainer part number 22519162.
6. Connect new feed wire and terminal to threaded stud on new lighter housing and the original black ground wire and terminal to the spade terminal on the lighter housing retainer.
7. Install the lighter knob and element using part number 22548265 for a console face plate mounted lighter or part number 22542744 for a console mounted ashtray lighter.
