INCORRECT DAY-OF-WEEK DISPLAYED FOR ETA. REVISED

SUBJECT: 1988 CUTLASS CALAIS MODELS EQUIPPED WITH LD2 2.3L ENGINE (QUAD 4) AND DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM (U51) OPTION

Customers may comment that the incorrect day is displayed by the driver information system (DIS) when using the ETA (estimated time of arrival) mode only. This condition is caused by a software error programmed into the DIS unit and only occurs during a leap year (1988, 1992, 1996, etc.).

Corrected DIS units are now being used in production, beginning with vehicles built on or after February 1, 1988.

This condition can be corrected by replacing the driver information system unit with part number 22542678.

Use applicable labor operation and time.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
