ENGINE DOES NOT STAY RUNNING ON INITIAL COLD START

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989 A CAR WITH 3300 ENGINE (VIN N)

Some 1989 A cars equipped with a 3300 engine (VIN Code N), may experience a condition described as "the engine will not stay running on the initial start when the engine is cold" (with proper fuel pressure and no excessive leak down).

If this condition is experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to install a new service Mem-Cal with a revised start-up mode air/fuel calibration.

The Mem-Cals are currently available through General Motors Service Parts Operations under the following part numbers:

Trans. Sales Code *Scanner Mem-Cal Model I.D. Located On I.D. If This Mem- Service Application Trans. Deck Lid Decal Cal is Installed Part No. ------------ ------ -------------- ---------------- -------- A Car (All) 125C MX1 4544 16135135 A Car (All) 440-T4 MX0 3374 16133900

IMPORTANT: This calibration is currently being used in production. Verify if this Mem-Cal is already installed by using the scanner I.D.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
