SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE REAR DEFOGGER (RPO C49) MAY COME ON WITHOUT ANY INPUT FROM THE DRIVER ON VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC A/C CONTROLS (RPO C68) ONLY, UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
1. KEY ON, ENGINE NOT RUNNING - THE REAR DEFOGGER WILL COME ON WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED ON, THEN TIME OUT NORMALLY AFTER TEN MINUTES IF THE ENGINE IS NOT STARTED.
2. KEY ON, THEN CRANK - REAR DEFOGGER LIGHT WILL COME ON, GO OUT DURING CRANK, FLASH WHEN THE IGNITION IS MOVED OUT OF CRANK, AND THEN GO OUT. THE DRIVER MAY REPORT THIS AS "REAR DEFOGGER LIGHT FLICKERS WHILE STARTING".
AN INTERNAL CHANGE TO THE RELAY ALLOWED UNWANTED FEEDBACK, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE ABOVE CONDITION. THIS CONDITION SHOULD EXIST ONLY ON 1994 VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN NOVEMBER 15TH, 1993 AND JANUARY 15, 1994. A NEW REAR DEFOGGER RELAY HAS BEEN RELEASED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. THE NEW RELAY WILL BE USED FOR ALL C49 CARS FROM 1988 TO 1994.
REPLACE THE REAR DEFOGGER RELAY WITH P/N 10262822, FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.
PARTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE ON APRIL 4, 1994.
