Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  3. Rotate the engine. Refer to Rotating the Engine for Service Access .
  4. Remove the tie straps from the heater outlet pipe and the ignition wiring harness.
  5. Remove the upper radiator hose from the engine. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  6. Remove the vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Automatic Transmission.
  7. Remove the heater outlet hose and the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to HVAC.

  9. Remove the heat shield bolts.
  10. Remove the heat shield.

  11. Object Number: 54282  Size: SH
  12. Remove the crossover pipe bolts.
  13. Remove the crossover pipe.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 54282  Size: SH
  1. Install the crossover pipe.
  2. Install the crossover pipe bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the heat shield.
  5. Install the heat shield bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the heater outlet hose and the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to HVAC.
  8. Install the vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Automatic Transmission.
  9. Install the tie straps from the heater outlet pipe and the ignition wiring harness.
  10. Install the upper radiator hose to the engine. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  11. Rotate the engine. Refer to Rotating the Engine for Service Access .
  12. Install the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  13. Refill the engine with coolant. Add two engine coolant sealant pellets, GM P/N 3634621. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  14. Bleed the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  15. Install the air cleaner duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
