Camshaft Driven Sprocket Replacement Left Side
Removal Procedure
• | J 38614 Camshaft
Sprocket Holding Tool |
- Remove the camshaft timing belt. Refer to
Timing Belt Replacement
.
- Remove the clamping device from the left camshaft sprockets.
- Rotate both of the camshaft sprockets in a counterclockwise motion
so that the camshaft flats are face up.
- Install the J 38613-A
.
- Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt using the J 38614
.
- Remove the camshaft sprocket using a soft faced hammer.
- Inspect the camshaft for wear or deformation. Replace the camshaft
if these conditions exist.
- Inspect the nose of the camshaft for brinellling from the lock
ring. Pressure marks are acceptable. Grooves on the camshaft are not acceptable
and the camshaft must be replaced.
- Remove the flat ring from the sprocket bore.
Installation Procedure
- Install the flat ring to the sprocket bore.
- Install the camshaft sprocket.
- Install the camshaft sprocket bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the camshaft timing belt. Refer to
