Test Description

Number(s) below refer to the Step number(s) on the Diagnostic Chart:

  1. Be sure there is an adequate amount of fuel in the fuel tank.

If the fuel gauge seems inaccurate or stuck, there may be an obstruction with the Fuel Level Sensor.

  2. Be sure there is an adequate amount of fuel in the fuel tank.

If the fuel gauge seems inaccurate or stuck, there may be an obstruction with the Fuel Level Sensor.

  3. Be sure there is an adequate amount of fuel in the fuel tank.

If the fuel gauge seems inaccurate or stuck, there may be an obstruction with the Fuel Level Sensor.

  4. A Fuel Level Sensor Signal circuit shorted to ground will cause the Fuel Gauge to indicate Empty.

  5. An open ground circuit or loose terminals for the Fuel Level Sensor will cause the Fuel Gauge to indicate Full/past Full . Loose or corroded terminals may cause the Fuel Gauge to indicate inaccurately.

  6. An open or a shorted (5 V, or 12 V) Fuel Level Sensor Signal circuit will cause the Fuel Gauge to indicate Full/past Full .

  7. This vehicle is equipped with a PCM which utilizes an Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). When the PCM is being replaced, the new PCM must be programmed. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement/Programming .
