Transmission Brace Replacement 3100 L82

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

    Caution: To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle at the opposite end from which components are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off the hoist.

    in General Information.
  2. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.

  4. Object Number: 160961  Size: MH
  5. Remove the transaxle brace bolts.
  6. Remove the transaxle brace.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the transaxle brace to transaxle and engine.

  2. Object Number: 160961  Size: MH
  3. Hand start the bolts to the engine.
  4. Hand start the bolts to the transaxle.
  5. Install the brace bolts to the engine.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the brace bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft). Refer to

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the brace bolts to the transaxle.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the brace bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  9. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Body Front End.
  10. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

Transmission Brace Replacement 3.4 L DOHC LQ1

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
    • J 28467-90 Engine Support Adapter
    • J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg Set
  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the electric engine cooling fan. Refer to Cooling and radiator.
  3. Install the J 28467-A .
  4. Install the J 28467-90 .
  5. Install the J 36462 .
  6. Install the engine support.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

  8. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  9. Remove the right drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to Drive Axle.
  10. Remove the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust System.
  11. Remove the generator. Refer to Charging System.
  12. Remove the rear generator pencil brace. Refer toCharging System.
  13. Remove the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Charging System.
  14. Remove the right (rear) engine mount upper nuts from the engine/transaxle brace. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Raise the engine.
  17. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

  19. Remove the engine/transaxle brace to transaxle retaining bolts.
  20. Remove the engine mount bracket and engine/transaxle brace to engine retaining bolts.
  21. Remove the engine mount bracket and engine/transaxle brace.
  22. Remove the engine mount bracket to engine/transaxle brace nuts.
  23. Remove the engine mount bracket from the engine/transaxle brace.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture
    • J 28467-90 Engine Support Adapter
    • J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg Set

  1. Install the engine mount bracket to engine/transaxle brace.
  2. Install the engine mount bracket to engine/transaxle brace nuts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount bracket to engine/transaxle brace nuts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft). Refer to

  4. Install the engine mount bracket and engine/transaxle brace.
  5. Install the engine mount bracket and engine/transaxle brace to engine retaining bolts.
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten the front block bolts to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).
        • Tighten the side block bolts to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
  7. Install the engine/transaxle brace to transaxle retaining bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the engine/transaxle brace to transaxle retaining bolts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Lower the engine.
  11. Remove the J 36462 .
  12. Remove the J 28467-90 .
  13. Remove the J 28467-A .
  14. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

  15. Install the right (rear) engine mount upper nuts to the engine/transaxle brace. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
  16. Install the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Charging System.
  17. Install the rear generator pencil brace. Do NOT tighten. Refer to Charging System
  18. Install the generator. Tighten rear generator pencil brace. Refer to Charging System.
  19. Install the three-way catalytic converter pipe to right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust System.
  20. Install the right drive axle to transaxle. Refer to Drive Axle.
  21. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tires and Wheels.
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Install the electrical engine cooling fan. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  24. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery.
