INTERMITTENT STALL ON DECEL OR CEL CODE 32

ENGINE INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT STAY RUNNING ON DECEL, OR EXHIBITS A FALSE CODE 32 (REVISED TO CHANGE NUMBER TO READ 87-638-114)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 'H' SERIES WITH 3.8L ------------------ (CANADIAN ENGINES)

REVISED DUE TO PART NUMBER CHANGES.

Some 1987 "H" series model equipped with 3.8L SFI engines (VIN code 3) may experience one or more of the following conditions:

o Engine intermittently won't stay running at closed throttle, under deceleration conditions (with proper scanner readings and minimum air set correctly).

o An intermittent "Service Engine Soon" light with a stored false code 32 (if no problem found with EGR system).

If any of these conditions are experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to install a new service PROM.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
